Types Of Wound Treated

Venous Leg Ulcers

A venous ulcer or venous leg ulcer is a slow-healing sore on the leg that results from poor circulation. Somewhat more than 1% of Americans wind up getting a venous ulcer. Common causes include aging, smoking, obesity, diabetes, leg injuries and varicose veins.

Arterial Ulcers

Arterial ulcers are similar to venous ulcers but they are round and deep, presenting the illusion of being “punched” by a hole puncher. These wounds are typically found on the outer side of the feet, ankles, heels and toes. Unlike some other types of wounds, arterial ulcers are dry.

Traumatic Wounds

Cuts, lacerations, or puncture wounds that cause damage to the skin and underlying tissues are commonly referred to as traumatic wounds or severe wounds. They can seriously harm the skin’s sensitive tissues if they are not treated in a timely manner. Traumatic wounds are a sort of abrupt or unforeseen damage that can happen as a result of violence or following accidents.

Diabetic Foot Ulcers

Diabetic Ulcers are open sores or wounds found on the bottom of the feet. Open wounds and blisters are common consequences of diabetic neuropathy, which is a nerve damage that is commonly caused by type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Uncontrollable blood sugar can weaken the walls of the capillaries that supply nutrients and oxygen to the areas of the body, in turn impeding nerve signals.

Pressure Ulcers

Pressure ulcers (also known as bed sores and pressure ulcers) are wounds that are commonly found on bony prominences. These wounds progress through four stages and can culminate in the wound infecting a bone, requiring surgery.

Surgical Wounds

Surgical wounds are incisions made during surgery that have not healed properly. Surgical wounds can form during plastic surgery procedures that use drains. Any wounds that are present and that have been the site of a procedure in which foreign objects like scalpels break the skin are at high risk for infection.

Cancerous Ulcers

An ulcerating cancer wound is when a cancer that is growing under the skin breaks through the skin and creates a wound. These ulcers are caused by skin cancer or the spread of cancer from elsewhere. These types of skin ulcers are called malignant skin ulcers. Cancers which can spread to the skin include breast cancer, and cancers of the head and neck or genital areas.

Burn Wounds

A burn is an injury to the skin or other organic tissue primarily caused by heat or due to radiation, radioactivity, electricity, friction or contact with chemicals. Thermal (heat) burns occur when some or all of the cells in the skin or other tissues are destroyed by: hot liquids (scalds).
